At Sepura, bulk packaging isn’t new—it’s a smart, long-standing practice that cuts waste, boosts efficiency and brings significant benefits to both our customers and the environment. By reusing original factory boxes instead of repacking, we save materials and reduce labour. Even small changes, like cleaner labels for easier reuse, make a big difference. It’s a simple shift with lasting benefits.

Optimising resource use and improving sustainability
To encourage customers to make informed decisions about packaging options, Sepura provides a simple visual guide that compares bulk and individual packaging side by side. The guide, shared as a PDF during the ordering process, shows customers exactly how a single handheld radio appears when individually boxed versus when shipped in bulk making it easier for customers to see how they can help reduce waste and improve efficiency.
The guide has proven particularly valuable for large-scale deployments. Bulk packaging enables significantly more units to be shipped in the same space – for example, around 800 radios can fit on a single pallet when packed in bulk, compared to just 288 individually boxed units.
Rob explains:
“Customers often ask about the differences between packaging types, especially when planning larger deployments. The visual guide helps them see the options clearly. Bulk packaging makes a huge difference in terms of logistics; it’s more efficient, uses fewer materials, and simplifies handling on their end.”
The adoption metrics tell a compelling story:
- In 2017, 47% of Sepura radios were shipped using bulk packaging.
- By 2021, this rose to 53%.
- As of 2025 to date, 58% of Sepura radios are now shipped in bulk.
In addition to reducing materials, Sepura works with a packaging supplier that provides FSC-certified cardboard, ensuring that every step taken contributes to a more sustainable operation.
Expanding impact through responsible packaging
Sepura is continuing to explore how the bulk packaging model can be extended across more product types, including accessories where volumes and logistics make it viable. While some challenges remain, particularly with smaller or more varied items, the guiding principles stay the same: reduce where possible, reuse wherever practical, and recycle responsibly.
Bulk packaging is a straightforward change that delivers clear environmental and logistical benefits. By adopting it, customers can reduce waste and improve efficiency. We’re continuing to look for opportunities with other product lines to expand its use.
